My 30th birthday

I’m not going to lie…I cried about turning 30. It has always seemed so “old” to me, and no matter how many time people told me that 30 wasn’t old, I just wasn’t convinced. So, it was only fitting that I throw myself a carnival themed birthday party. I needed lollipops and cotton candy to help ease me into the next decade. And you know what? It worked!

I had so much fun planning this party. Someday I’ll get paid to throw someone an amazing party, I just know it. Soooo, the last week of my 20’s was spent at party stores and blowing up balloons, instead of sky diving and skinny dipping…but I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Heather was flying in on the big day, and I had it all planned out to the minute. Shopping and Café Rio, party set up, and PARTY! Who knew I’d get a few surprises on my meticulously planned day.

The first surprise actually happened the night before when I got pampered by my awesome friends. Pretty toes and a new hairdo. So fun.

The next surprise was a flower delivery just for me from my awesome hubby. This is the first time I’ve have flowers delivered, and I felt pretty darn special.

Then came the whopper of surprises. All along I knew Heather was coming to Boise for my birthday…she didn’t really have a choice. It was my 30th after all. And it was the fact that she’d be there that I knew would make my day amazing. But I had no idea (although I did hope) that Heidi would be able to come as well. Excuse my high pitched voice in the video. I guess that’s what I sound like when I’m extremely happy and surprised.

So the sisterhood was complete. I could go to bed happy. But NO! There was a carnival to be had. And, so I never forget, I must document each game

Tattoo Parlor, face painting, Kissing booth, Fortune teller, Fishing game, Soda Ring Toss, Balloon Darts, Rootbeer Pong, a Sucker Pull, Raffle, Bullseye game with Nerf Guns, and lots and lots of treats. Long story short, the party was a success.

The night ended with me reading so many letters from people I love all put together by Heather in a scrapbook with pictures. Letters from family and friends, people I haven’t talked to in years and years. It is a gift that I will always treasure. Thank you Heather for putting together, and thank you to everyone who wrote such kind words. It means so much to me.

The next day the sisters went running together, we played Agricola, we had fro yo, played mini gold, went to Tucano’s, and topped off the night with an amazing movie, and races up the theater stairs. My sisters are awesome. Sunday we got to sing together in church, play more games and then sadly it was time for them to leave. What a FUN weekend. That’s really the only word for it. Sheer fun. I’m already looking forward to 40.

And I just have to post this last picture because I think it’s hilarious. I love cookies, I’ve always known it, but I guess everyone else does too. This is my stack of baked goodness that I got for my birthday. I won’t embarrass myself by telling you how much of this is now gone.

I feel like I’ve been waiting around for this day for a long, long time. So I did what any good mother would do and bundled up the little ones and made the smallest snowman possible so we could hurry back inside.

Christmas

But first, can I post a few Halloween pictures? I know, that’s was eons ago, but I’d really like to document it. Thanks for being so understanding

Mr Veggie Bones made his appearance again and was eaten up by a ghost, mermaid and cupcake.

What a fun holiday. Okay, well as long as I’ve started, how about we throw in Thanksgiving as well? We had lots of food, good friends, puzzles, and Heather. What else could a person possibly need?

Oh yes, lots and lots of pie!

Okay, I think I’m ready now. Christmas! Can you believe it’s over?

We saw Santa (3 times), found and decorated the perfect Christmas tree, ate our daily candy cane for our countdown to Christmas, the kids were in the Primary Nativity, we had a gingerbread house making party with friends, dressed up as Rudolph and Santa on a daily basis, took a quick trip to Utah to see friends and family, visited the new Boise aquarium, and kept with tradition and made amazing gingerbread houses with Heather. I rarely turned off the tree lights and Christmas music. Our home was full of the spirit of Christmas.

And then, all of a sudden it was Christmas Eve. Santa brought the kids exactly what they wanted, and I gave them everything else they didn’t know they wanted. The kids really understood this year that we were celebrating Christ’s birth, and were sweet to always be drawing nativities or acting out the angels and shepherds.

I’m pretty sure that I was the most spoiled of all. Jake bought me a new SLR camera, and I love it. As as kid I always dreamed of becoming a National Geographic Photographer, and now I’m well on my way.

Just a few more pics from Christmas day courtesy on my new fun camera. We enjoyed a wonderful Christmas program at church put together by yours truly, the choir did an amazing job, and I just felt blessed to be a part of it. We got all dolled up in our new Sunday clothes, played with lots and lots of toys, made and ate a yummy ham dinner, played some more, made and ate homemade donuts (new tradition) played a bit more and went to bed happy and full. It’s been fun these past two years to have Christmas with just my own little family and make new traditions that will last the rest of our lives. I love to imagine Sage and Hazel as mothers, hanging up the Santa Claus candy cane advent for their kids, just like my mom did for me and I do for them.

You were good to us Christmas, can’t wait to see you again!

Happiest Place on Earth

Man, they weren’t kidding when they named it that. We were lucky enough to spend a short 2 days there in November and loved every minute of it. Even though we were all just slightly sick, nothing would keep us off Space and Splash Mountain.

But let me back up a bit. A few years ago my brother in law got married and honeymooned at Disneyland the week before Thanksgiving. They went on and on about how it was the perfect time to go. Smaller crowds, cooler weather, Christmas decorations are up….I was convinced. I just had to go to Disneyland the week before Thanksgiving. Although each year there was never enough time or money, so I would put off my dream yet again. Until this year.

It was meant to be. My dear friend, Des, had just moved 10 miles away from Disneyland and was so kind and gracious enough to lend us her children’s room during our stay. She also took us to the beach and took picture like this. I love my friend.

The next morning we were off!

My kids got chosen to be trained as Jedi Knights. That was a definite highlight of the trip. Sage fought off Darth Vader and Jaxon destroyed Darth Maul.

I was one proud mama

Dumbo was far and away Sage’s favorite ride, while I think Hazel much preferred the carousel, and Jaxon was partial to Space Mountain. Me? I loved it ALL!

To finish off our first magical day, fireworks and snow. Perfection, sigh.

The next day we woke bright and early and hauled our kids off again. Poor things were just mostly sick and tired, but nothing would keep us from making the most of our two days. We met Belle, Goofy, Mickey, and of course….

Hazel’s beloved Minnie Mouse. That girl loved Minnie more than anything. We tried to get her to turn around, but no way, not when there’s a giant Minnie Mouse to look at

By the afternoon the kids had reached their limit. The tears began to flow, and we knew it was time to take them home. But here’s where the real fun begins. Remember that awesome friend who I was staying with? Well, she babysat my kids all night and Jake and I had the most amazing date night at Disneyland! We practically ran from one ride to the next. It was bliss

We left California the next day exhausted but so very happy.

I signed up a year ago to run this crazy relay race with my sisters, not having any idea what it actually was. I mean, I knew that you ran from Mt. Hood to the beach with a group of 12 runners in 2 separate vans. I knew that you ran through the night, and that you slept whenever you could, where ever you could. But this knowledge in no way prepared me for the crazy 2 days I would have.

Of course the day started with adrenaline. We woke up at 7am on Friday morning (after a very restless night) and piled in a team members Suburban. I was full of questions on what to expect, and kept looking over the sheets that showed the 3 legs that I would be running. I was nervous. It was fun though. Tami was our first runner and we were whoopin’ and hollering when she started, then halfway through, and then again at the end.

You see, you start your runner off, then you drive to where you can meet them halfway and give them water, and then you race to the “exchange” where the runners switch. This is an ideal scenario, that doesn’t always happen.

Heather was our second runner in the van. She was pumped and ready to go. Here she is as we passed her in the van. This was just one of her many poses she made for us as she ran. I was stressed out that she was wasting precious energy. He face is hilarious in this picture.

Next up was Heidi….and I was after her. This is when the butterflies started to kick in. It was getting hot, I had to change into my running clothes, and I didn’t know whether or not I should eat or drink before my run. We made it to my exchange in time for me to eat some huge, gorgeous blackberries and take a few awesome photos.

Then I started to run. On a straight, shadeless. HOT trail. My team members were going to meet me where the path crossed the road for water and encouragement, and it’s the only thought that kept me going after a mile and a half of awful, sweaty running. At one point, after I’d been running for what felt like a long time, a guy passed me who was wearing something that said how far he’d run. Just as he passed I heard it say that we had gone a total of .6 miles. What the what?!?! But I just kept going. I had trained and I wasn’t about to let a little bit of heat stop me now. I kept looking ahead to see if my sisters were waiting with water bottles in hand, but no such luck. I didn’t have a watch, I had no idea how long I’d been running, but I knew they would meet me halfway, so I just had to keep going. Imagine my surprise when, up ahead, I saw the exchange. I was more than a little relieved to be done with my run, not just halfway. After waiting for me for awhile at the crossroad, they realized that I had probably passed it already. They made it to the exchange just in time.

I promise this isn’t all sweat on my shirt and face. I dumped an entire water bottle over my head. But I feel like my face perfectly captures how blasted HOT it was!

There were 2 more legs after mine, and then we were 1/3 of the way done!! We stopped at Steve’s house where his wife had prepared an amazing spread of food, and after eating we all took quick cat naps, or tried to at least, before we had to head out again to do it all over again.

We started running this time in the evening. It had cooled off, and the sun was just about to set. This is when I love to run the most, so I was excited. Tami did amazing on her leg, and then Heather had a 4 mile, or was it 6?, that was pretty much all up hill on a dusty trail. Heidi had the same dusty trail, in the dark no less. I, on the other hand, got to run on a paved road, with a million starts above my head, and after the first mile and a half uphill, it was downhill the other 5. It was glorious. I felt alive and strong. I got the encouragement for my team that I had missed out on before. With each runner I passed or that passed me, there was pleasant conversation and mutual admiration for our surroundings. There was a stream that I could hear, but not see to my left and so many, many stars above. I made it to the exchange no problem and could have gone on longer. It was SO fun.

The next few hours however, were not. Back in the van, I got tired, really tired. I tried to sleep, but couldn’t quite make it happen. I think I ran around midnight, and from 1-4am I was stuck in the back of that blasted SUV with my legs falling asleep every 5 minutes because there just wasn’t room for them. Finally we got to the area where we would be meeting the other van for the last time and it was there would could sleep for a few hours. There were people sleeping all over this large field, while van after van nearly ran over their head. It felt a little like a war scene, with bodies everywhere. Plus, I was exhausted, so everything seemed a little crazy. And it was 4 in the morning.

We were awaken around 7:00am by a member of the other van telling Tami that she had to start running right that minute! Their last runner was finished and waiting. Tami woke up, popped some pain killers and took off for her final run. There is no way I would have been able to do that. We ate a little breakfast, used the port-a-potties, and took off to the exchange. It was as this point that I was questioning my sanity. I told Heidi at one point….”this isn’t really THAT much fun” My legs were tight and sore, my back hurt, I was exhausted, and I still wasn’t sure when or what to eat. But the highlight of this day was that it was Heidi and Ricks anniversary so Heidi wore her veil on her final run. (it was my idea) People loved it, and it got her through that last difficult leg. Plus she looked awesome!

My last leg was a little over 3 miles, and it’s a good thing too. Anymore than that and I might have killed over. My legs wanted to give out on me as I started to run. It was as if my brain was telling me that my body was done running, and what the crap did I think I was doing? But I powered through. I could feel the ocean breeze, and although I couldn’t see the beach yet, I knew we were close. I was SO happy when I saw the exchange and couldn’t believe that I had actually done it! My part of the race was over and now I could just enjoy the rest.

after that, we drove to the beach and waited for Rick to finish us off. There was a huge finish line that the whole team got to cross together, and loud music playing, and a beautiful beach to lay on. I am so glad I was able to run this crazy relay with my amazing sisters, and will for sure be doing it again. Even if I couldn't walk for 3 days afterwards. It was worth it!

Ah, the memories

About a month ago, my computer got a virus. About a week ago, I thought I had lost everything on my computer. Every picture, every video. I began searching my computer calmly, and then not so calmly, until, in tears, I accepted the fate of all the precious memories I had lost. I was sick about it.

But, there’s a happy ending to the story. My amazing brother saved the day, and managed to restore everything that the dang virus had hidden from me. Hallelujah.

I spent most of that evening looking through my gold mine of memories.

Obviously it’s impossible to forget these days, but I can’t imagine having lost the pictures

This, on the other hand, I wouldn’t mind forgetting. Yikes!

My sweet little Jaxon. Life was so quiet and simple back then. He was such a good baby, and I could stare into those eyes forever.

There are few things I love more than watching my little 1 year old eat cake!! I feel like Sage and Hazel look identical in these pictures.

I don’t think I’ll ever forget how much Sage cried as a baby. That girl was just unhappy for 12 months straight, I swear. Okay, it wasn’t that bad.

Oregon according to iPhone

I sure love my visits to Oregon, and this one was particularly special. I got to watch my sweet niece play Gretel in The Sound of Music. I loved each and everyone one of the 5 performances/rehearsals that I saw, and enjoyed the whirlwind trip to it’s fullest.

Some highlights so that I can remember them….the hamburger place (thumbs up), picking berries unlawfully not once, but twice, freezing summer nights, late night with Robin, Dad’s dinner selection of Pork heart (it wasn’t really, don’t worry), naptime at the children’s museum, and bountiful blueberries.

Treasure

For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

This scripture has been running through my mind quite a bit lately. I’ve been thinking about the treasures that I have in my life. More than that, I’ve noticed my heart being pulled strongly in new and exciting ways.

I think it all began with this,

and has slowly grown to this.

I find myself outside many times a day carefully thinning plants, fertilizing, or just checking to see how high my peas have grown since the last time I visited. I had no idea how much of a treasure my garden would become. It reminds me of my childhood garden, and the Saturdays spent outside weeding to the tunes of John Denver. It reminds me of picking a green pepper off the plant and eating it like an apple. It reminds me of my mom.

This picture was taken the summer before she died. I still can’t believe how young I was. The memories I have of my mother are few and hazy, but I cherish them with all my heart. They are a treasure to me.

Just last week my brother brought a chest full of my mothers things from his home in Utah to my home in Idaho. He seemed to be happy to get rid of the burdensome load, and even when talking to my sister she laughed saying she wouldn’t want it. They don’t feel this way because they are heartless of course, but they have a stronger foundation with my mom, and the old nick knacks and clothes that are held in the chest aren’t treasures to them. But I’ll tell you what, they are to me.

I felt both reverent and giddy as I carefully took out each item that once belonged to my mother. Baby booties that were carefully crocheted by her hand, clothes that she had once worn, and so many scouting pins she had received from her 3 boys. My heart was full, and I could feel her close. I felt the scripture so literally.

For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also

Because of these realizations, I have been more aware of other areas in life where my heart belongs.

Of course it is with my wonderful family. We just celebrated Jaxon’s kindergarten graduation. 1st grade, here we come!!

My dear friends. I have truly grown to love these women, and am grateful for their friendship. I look up to them in so many ways.

Princess Sage

One morning I noticed Sage acting a bit peculiar. It wasn’t anything too out of the ordinary…..dressing up as a princess and finding all the right accessories to go with it, it was just that this day she was extremely particular about which accessories she had. She quickly became frustrated with me if I couldn’t help her in finding the exact wand, earrings, or crown. Eventually my curiosity became too great and I had to figure out what it was she was up to.

I had to laugh when I discovered the reason behind her busy morning. She was determined to dress up just like this princess.

It was on the front of a birthday invitation we had received months ago, and yet Sage had managed to keep it away from my -eager to throw anything away- hands.

My Little Lady

Sugar and spice and everything nice, that’s what little Hazy is made of.

I was so happy to have a day to celebrate just her! I might have to set aside a day a week from now on as Hazel day. It was just too much fun. Of course I went overboard on the planning aspect of the party, I always do (I should get a job as a children’s party planner) but I knew I’d have amazing pictures to look back on the day, thanks to my awesome friend, so all the hours I spent baking every fun treat I could think of, and folding tissue paper and cutting paper for decorations was worth it.

I’m not so sure the sugar and spice quote fits quite as nicely with this little girl of mine. She’s got some serious attitude!

The singing of the birthday song by a crowd, as well as a burning flame in front of her that she could not touch proved to be too much for Hazel to handle.

But after some prodding, she daintily took small bites of her cake. Such a little lady.

This is as messy as she got! We were not impressed, but love her despite her clean face.

Isn’t it funny trying to get a good picture with small kids? I mean, this is the best we could get, and not a single child is even slightly interested in looking at the camera. I guess it just captures life how it really is.

I’m pretty sure I mention it every time I talk or write about Hazel, but I love this girl SOOO much! She brings only joy to my life. And I’m not just saying that. She is exactly what our family needed, and I’ll never forget how my life was changed for the better, one year ago today, when she was given to us.

We love you baby Hazel.

More than you’ll ever know.

Also, I seem to have lost this baby. If someone could please return her to me once she’s found, I’d greatly appreciate it. (sniff, sniff)

Everyday happenings

Sage talks in a British accent when she plays pretend. I love it.

Hazel is just weeks away from her first birthday. It makes me want to cry.

Jaxon can READ! It’s been amazing to see my sons world open to these magical letters on a page. It makes me anxious to teach Sage.

(Everyday moment in our home)

Sage can ride her bike with no training wheels. It took her literally 30 seconds of Jake holding on to the back of her bike before she was on her own. It took Jaxon 2 miles. She’ll be our little athlete for sure.

Hazel took her first step on Sunday, April 17th. It was sort of an accidental step, but a step non the less. Jake is determined to have her walking before her birthday….I just want her to STOP growing all together.

Jaxon has class pictures yesterday, and I forgot. His hair was more than slightly crazy, and was made worse by the helmet head he got from riding his bike to school. I had to run home to get his picture packet, and by the time I got back to his classroom, someone has fixed his hair. I’m that parent- the neglectful, send your kid to class pictures looking like a homeless child, (his pants had a giant tear in them (didn’t notice until I was dropping him off)) parent. Oh well, at least I’m honest with myself.

Sage and Jaxon have been playing SO well together. She’ll play Star Wars, and he’ll play with babies. She’ll do Legos, and he’s happy to play Hello Kitty. And they can create all sorts of adventure together in the back yard. I love them both desperately for it.

All three kids are sleeping in the same room right now, and it’s been working out surprisingly well. So now I have an always empty guest room that’s begging for visitors.

I’ve been sewing these past few days, and I’m thinking I may have caught the bug. With all the easy, cute tutorials on the internet, it’s hard not too. It also helps that I have inspiring friends. Here’s the skirt I made Sage. I love the owls. And yes, she’s playing the Xbox….how else I’m I supposed to blog?

Hazel has new tricks since that last post. She gives kisses, waves bye bye, and shakes her head no with a huge smile whenever she’s doing something naughty.

Me and the kids planted a garden last Saturday. Now I stress all day when it’s not covered in sunshine. My father has such a green thumb, and I’m praying I’ve somehow inherited it.

We went on a weeklong trip through Montana at the beginning of this month looking for possible jobs. Montana is beautiful. Just amazing. After 24+ hours of driving in the car, and Hazel hating 20+ hours of it, I was happy to be home though. I’m not sure that we’ll end up living in Montana, but you can bet it will be a favorite vacation spot. We especially loved the carousel in Missoula.

It’s this little girls birthday next week, and it kills me that I won’t be there to make her a cake with some sort of bug on it. Looks like it was butterflies this year, and spiders last year. Holly, keep checking the mail for a present from us!!

I’m loving this spring weather, and all the new flowers and blossoms. It just makes me cheerful, you know? Life if good, and I am blessed.

We put curlers in Rapunzel's hair one morning. Sage wanted her princesses to have pretty curled hair like she did. It didn’t work, by the way. I was tempted to use a little product and try again. Let’ s be honest, this game was probably more fun for me then it was for her.

And last but not least, for dinner on Tuesday we had quesadillas. The kids made cheese men while they ate. Jaxon’s is holding a light saber. I’m okay with my kids playing with their food if they are this creative!

Tricks!!

Hazel turned 11 months old yesterday, and she is learning new things every day. Here are some of her cutest tricks.

Any time she finds a phone she knows just what to do. She say’s hi, hi, hi, over and over again with a big smile. It’s adorable. She’ll also say hi to anyone who says it first. So next time you see Hazel, make sure to say hello!

This trick is fairly new. It’s one that I’ve made sure all my kids mastered though. A favorite for sure.

She is also awesome on her walker, and just started standing on her own. She refuses to eat baby food anymore, and has four little teeth. She is still the best little baby, except for the fact that she keeps getting bigger despite my telling her to stop 10x a day. Disobedient little cutie.

I’m a bit envious of my baby right now.

What I wouldn’t give for someone to put me in a nice soft bed that I couldn’t get out of, wrap a blanket around me and softly tell me to just go to sleep.

So far today I’ve had spit up all over my bed and myself, a bowel movement that occurred right after taking a diaper off, but right before making it to the bath, NON-STOP chatter about Star Wars, Pokemon, and other such little boy things, 4 or 5 tantrums from my sweet, but often angry, Sage, and it’s only 9:00am.

So as I laid my baby down and rubbed her back as her eyes grew drowsy, I found myself wishing it were me instead.

Fast-forward a month

Okay, starting today. Not much to say really, pretty average day. But yesterday was special for this reason alone.

This girl brings me crazy amounts of happiness. I love her to teeny tiny pieces.

Before that we had some birthday’s to celebrate. I made a cake for one, (my sweet neighbor turning 16)

and green eggs for the other, (Dr. Seuss of course)

Before that, Sage got glitterized and we celebrated Jake’s 33rd birthday!

Unlike myself, Jake likes to keep his birthdays simple, so the kids and I made up a list of games to play for the birthday party after he got home from work, and then we went to Texas Roadhouse for dinner. Yum! He took the next day off so we kept the celebration going throughout the weekend. Ending with another trip to Tucanos….I’m sick of the place now. Too much meat!

And before that, we went to Portland to check out Heidi’s new digs. And boy are they nice! :)

These pictures make me a teeny bit sad. Can I come back please? The time was spent eating, and playing games mostly. Because that’s what we do best! I also spent a lot of time running up and down stairs. Heidi has her own gym now. Oh, and we got to skype our most awesome sister Heather. That’s her. She’s in Africa changing the world

Before that, we celebrated Valentines day. I was going to do an cute tutorial post on how to make my fun Valentines, but then I realized that I’m not really a tutorial kind of girl, so I didn’t. But I got some cute pictures out of the deal. So here it is, a month late.
First, you have to get the perfect picture. That took twice with Sage.

We also had a fantastic little party with some friends to end our Valentines night. It was wonderful.

Beloved Birthday’s

Hey, did you know that I love my birthday? Because if you are reading this blog, and you don’t know that, I am hurt. Really hurt.

This year was no different. I bought myself LOTS of presents, planned myself a rockin’ party with friends, and even got a Cafe Rio salad to BooT!

I have a total of two pictures from the day, so I will post them. I made each of the kids buy me a present at the dollar tree after we had fro-yo. This is what Sage picked out.

Jaxon got me socks to go with my new shoes I bought myself. Oh, and as a side note, if you’ve ever been unhappy with a gift that someone (spouse) has given you for your birthday, and you wish so badly you could have something else…..I have the solution. BUY IT FOR YOURSELF. Seriously, I got everything I wanted for my birthday. Despite the fact that I was unhappy with the gift someone else (spouse) got me! :)

Here’s a photo from the party. The picture doesn’t seem to show how exciting it truly was, but it was good times for sure.

It was another perfect birthday. And next year is the big THREE OH!! So just schedule yourself right now to come to my awesome party next January 27th!

Now on to the next. Sage’s birthday last year was insane! For that reason, as I planned this party I felt like I kept it way low-key and somehow everyone was still perfectly happy. So you’re telling my I don’t need princesses and jump houses to make a little kid happy on their birthday? Who knew? We had a Hello Kitty party with a guest list of only 3 sweet little girls. Perfect.

We made candy necklaces, did face painting, played a few other games and that was it.

Sage wanted to go to Chuck E. Cheese after the party, and I’m not one to say no to such a request on a birthday, so we went and it was INSANE! Jake and I had a headache the rest of the day. The kids were happy though, and that’s what counts.

And no birthday will ever be complete for me again without a stop to Blue Cow.

Sage is finally four. Last year it was like she’d been 3 forever on her birthday and this year was the same. She’s just so grown up. But I finally feel like she matches her age . She is so fun and helpful, and is the best big sister. Hazel adores her. I love having her in my life, even if some days I have to remind myself of it over and over again. She has a great sense of humor and makes me laugh out loud at least once a day. She loves her Barbie's, Strawberry Shortcake toys, Hello Kitty, and all things Princess. Just like I’d always dreamed my little girl would. Happy Birthday my sweet Sage. I love you!!!

“Let’s go on an adventure kids”

Little did I know how adventurous the day would become.

I’d heard so much about Table Rock since moving to Boise. A great short hike right in town, awesome views, not too difficult. Even my neighbor said she hiked it everyday in the summer and ran down for exercise. Seemed so easy, just a hop skip and a jump to the top. So it seemed the perfect family activity on our sunny Monday off.

We got bundled up, but I unfortunately, had left my only pair of athletic shoes in Oregon over Christmas so I was stuck wearing my trusty Teva sandals. No big deal, I thought, I do everything in my sandals. Boy, was I wrong.

At the very start of the trail there is a sign that warns if there is mud on the trail then don’t hike it. Well, I wasn’t about to let a little sign stop me, so we continued on despite the sticky thick mud being piled up on our shoes.

But before long, the trail dried up and all seemed smooth sailing.

Hazel had the right idea. This is the only way to hike!

Before long the mud was back. And it was back in full force. Here are Jaxon’s shoes being swallowed up in the earth. This happened only after I had gotten Sage’s shoes out of the same predicament. And as I was rescuing both children, my poor sandaled feet sunk deeper and deeper into the mess.

Here’s what I ended up with. And all this happened only about half way up the blasted mountain. But there was no stopping the Christensen’s. Oh, no. So I just sucked it up, and hiked barefoot.

Well, long story short, we got there. The views were as beautiful as I had hoped and the kids did amazing!! Hardly complained at all. (I’m pretty sure, okay positive, that I did most of the complaining)

The hike down was wonderfully uneventful, and we were all very happy see our car beckoning us in the parking lot.

We felt we deserved something great for accomplishing such a feat, so we grabbed my free birthday meal coupon and made our way to Tucanos for lunch/dinner.

Tucanos is amazing, by-the-way.

So the moral of the story is, yes, hike Table Rock, but please, whatever you do, don’t wear sandals.

Oregon!

We got to go to Oregon a few days after Christmas and have a blissful week of food and family. My two most favorite things. We got there around 11:30pm, and woke up bright and early to drive to the beach…in the pouring rain. Only in Oregon! But as always, it was wonderful…even through the many hail storm we experienced.

It didn’t take long for Grant and Hazel to become reacquainted. He found her head quite kissable, and I can’t say that I disagree.

This is also where I was introduced to Dominion. I’m not going to say it’s better than Agricola, but yes, it’s pretty fun. (I’m such a game nerd)

Heather was bound and determined to actually go to the beach, seeming as we drove 2 hours to get there. So the die hards of the group bundled up and braved the storm to go walk on the beach. Poor Sage thought she’d be swimming and making sand castles. She was sorely mistaken.

But Heather would not be deterred by a chilly temperature and a little rain. No, no, she went ahead and jumped in anyway. TWICE!! Gotta love that woman.

Then all we had to do was sit around and wait for New Years Eve to show itself. My sisters and I throw a mean New Years Eve party. Mostly we just have LOTS of food.

We started the night with Bunco. Heidi had a perfect little thing going, hadn’t lost once. Well, it was my turn to be partnered with her, and wouldn’t you know it, the other team got Bunco on their first roll. So what does my sweet sister do?

She throws her pencil at me, point blank, and draws blood on my forehead. Watch out for this one, she’s a little scary when she looses. Not sure what Heather is doing in this picture, but it’s pretty fantastic whatever it is! :)

The next morning I got to see my kindred spirit Maegan, and Sage was once again reunited with her best bud Abby. These two are so cute.

It was a fun filled week (isn’t it always??) And I was sad to see it go. Good thing we’ve always got next year!

Christmas Post

I really wanted to get this post done before Christmas day, so I will take advantage of this time where the kids are in bed but WIRED, and will be out to visit many, many times in the next hour.

This has been one fun, crazy month. We got some serious snow and took full advantage of it. Snowball fights, sledding, and LOTS of hot chocolate. Jake is a bit of a hot chocolate junkie. The kids benefit greatly from it!

We found and decorated our perfect Christmas tree, we prefer Nobel Firs.

Visited Santa and let him know the things we wanted this year. Jaxon would like a Lego Slave 1, and Sage would like a Barbie Car. Hazel would be happy with a big box of Cheerios. She’s crawling now, and it’s ADORABLE! She does a little army crawl that none of my other kids have done, and she is quick. Since she’s learned that trick we have found many foreign objects in her mouth. So we like to keep a fairy decent sized stack of Cheerios nearby to keep her occupied!

We got an awesome week long visit from Heather and made gingerbread houses while she was here. It was way more fun than any of us expected it to be!

We made a super quick trip to Utah to see friends and family. It was worth every penny we paid in gas.

We also stopped by Temple Square on the way out. It brought back happy memories of my childhood and helped my son feel the true meaning of Christmas.

I was in charge of our Ward Christmas program, and it went beautifully. I love being the ward choir director and feeling the power that music has. It was a fantastic Sunday.

And then today, on fabulous Christmas Eve, we were as busy as could be. We stopped by the discovery museum this morning, then went to sing at a retirement center. I love being able to have the kids sing their fun songs for the people there. Just leaves you with all sorts of warm fuzzies. Then we made lots of cookies, brought them to friends, came home, ate steak and other deliciousness, watched Polar Express, opened our Christmas pajamas, read and acted out the Christmas story from Luke 2, sang carols, left cookies and milk for Santa, and read Christmas books. Whew!! :) And like I mentioned at the beginning, the kids are now in bed just giddy with what’s to come. Christmas is so magical, I love it.

All About Hazel

Today is my sweet little Hazy’s half birthday. Six months ago today I went through the most intense natural childbirth experience and brought my sweet little angel into the world.

I ADORE this little girl. Me and her are like two peas in a pod. She’s my first baby to be a real momma’s girl, and I hate to admit that I kind of love it. Just tonight she was happily sitting on her daddy’s lap, and when I walked into the room she just started crying and trying to figure out a way to get to me. I’m not so sure that daddy thinks it’s as cute as I do. : ) She loves my hair and plays with it (pulls it) whenever I hold her over my shoulder. It’s sweet.

She is a great little roller, and can get around our entire front room no problem. She loves to eat, and is already a pro at eating those little Gerber star things.

She’s still not sleeping through the night, but we hope to remedy that soon. Plus, with a face like this, I don’t mind so much helping her out in the wee small hours of the morning.

She loves her momma best, but I think Sage would probably come in number 2 (sorry Jake) Anytime Sage comes around Hazel squeals in delight. It’s very cute.

She’s such a good, sweet, little baby, and I’m so happy she’s mine.

I love my best friend. She is the very best best friend a girl could hope for.

She is the kind of friend who would do anything for you, no matter what. And she has proved this to me many times.

We’ve been through thick and thin together, to say the very least, and we are so much closer because of it. Our mom’s are buried just a few feet from each other. How many best friends can say that? (hopefully not too many!)

She’s the kind of friend that I can be completely myself around, and know that she’ll love me anyways.

We have SO many memories, that we can waste hours and hours just talking about them all.

We will be friends forever.

Pumpkin Patch & Carving Pumpkins

I got to go on Jaxon’s Kindergarten fieldtrip to the pumpkin patch . There is just something so magical about a pumpkin patch. I love it. We got to take a hayride out to the pumpkins, and then the kids got to pick any pumpkin they wanted, as long as they could carry it.

I wasn’t supposed to bring Sage, but I did anyway. How could I not?

Here’s Jaxon with Mrs. Chambers. He is loving school,and it’s thanks to this amazing teacher. Each time I’ve been in his class, I’m amazed at how much control she has over the 24 students. She really does a fantastic job.

Now that we had our perfect pumpkins, we needed to carve them.

3 day Halloween

I sure do love this holiday, which made it especially fun to spend the whole weekend celebrating! Jaxon had his Harvest Party at school on Friday, and then we went to Jake’s work to see everyone in their fun costumes. Don’t they look great? Jake wore his stand-by costume, Clark Kent. He looks good in it, it works.

We then headed over to Ihop for their free pancakes. I even got one for Hazel. Then we decorated the back of the van and got ready for our ward trunk-or-treat. But not before taking some super cute photos of the kiddos.

She’s my little caterpillar. SO stinkin’ cute.

So Friday was a definate success. Next came Saturday. Sage had a birthday party in the morning, and as soon as that was over we went to the Outlet Mall for trick –or-treating. It was fun to spend time with friends.

We had Halloween pasta for dinner that night. But that was about it for Saturday. Oh, and our sweet little Gecko died on Saturday. Sad.

Sunday started our with a wonderful Stake Conference, and then a fun Halloween dinner. Thanks to Darilyn’s post, I didn’t have to come up with any of it on my own.

First we had Mr. Veggie Bones. I’ve never seen my kids eat so many vegetables. This will be a halloween tradition for sure.

We also had mummy dogs, and Jello Ghosts

And with all those leftover veggies, I made yummy Minestrone soup. It was fun having Halloween on a Sunday because I felt like I had all sorts of time to make dinner special.

I can hardly believe that Jaxon is 6 years old now. It seems like with each year he just gets kinder and funnier and smarter, so I suppose losing my little boy has a bit of a silver lining. But you better believe I miss this little guy.

He wanted to have a Star Wars party this year, and I was happy to oblige. There are countless ideas on the internet for just such a party. It went a little something like this.

The boys arrived and were given their Jedi checklists that had everything they needed to accomplish to become a Jedi Knight on them. First, though, they fueled up with mini light sabers (pretzel sticks) and Yoda Soda (lime sherbet and sprite).

The first task was Blaster Training. The boys loved this one. We had pictures of “bad guys” on the side of the house, and they each got to take turns shooting them with a Nerf Gun. Then they had to use the force, and close their eyes while trying to shoot them. Kind of a different twist on pin the tail. It was great.

The next task was Jedi Balancing Training. The boys had to go across the balance beam once, and then go back the other way while carrying an egg on a spoon. Can you believe that not one of the eight boys dropped it? I was amazed.

Next came Jedi Teamwork Training. This was my favorite. The grass became lava, and the boys had to work their way across the backyard while only stepping on pieces of cardboard. It was cute seeing them try and figure out how to work together to get everyone across. I loved it.

Here' they are just starting out Halfway done All the boys had to be touching the fence. They took this so seriously.

Our 4th task was Jedi Obstacle Course Training. I put Jake in charge of this one and he did great. Lots of climbing through boxes (good thing we still have so many from the move) and stuff like that.

Next up was Jedi Level 1 Light saber Training and Jedi Level 2 Light saber Training. We used a black light in the garage, and I found these awesome light up “light sabers” from the dollar tree that the kids used to keep a balloon up (level 1) and then pop bubbles without hitting anyone else (level 2).

After they had checked off everything on the list we came inside and I awarded each kid with this

Then we had cake and ice cream. Jaxon was very specific on the kind of cake he wanted. He told me NO fondant. I just think it’s funny that he knows so much about cakes, that he call tell me he wants just buttercream frosting. :) The cake was HARD to make, but the past couple of years I’ve sort of slacked off on his cakes, so I wanted this one to be just what he wanted. I think it turned out pretty cute in the end.

5 out of the 7 guests had Bronco shirts on. Can you tell I live in Boise now? The kid next to Jaxon is his new best friend. His name is Ian, and they play every day at recess. It’s so fun to see my little guy making friends at school.

Last, but not least, was present time. When the party was over I asked Jaxon what his favorite part was, seeming as I had just thrown an awesome party, and he said it was the presents. Figures.

All this happened on Saturday, but his real birthday was Monday so he got an extra celebration. He got to take cupcakes to school, we went bowling, out to dinner, and then opened more presents that night. Papa Joe even got him a real bow and arrow.

Overall, I think his 6th birthday was a good one.

This kid is one of the best. Almost every day he helps me become better. He has such charity for every person in his life, and just only wants to do good. He’s smart, so funny, and a pleasure to be around. He always asks in his prayers to help his mom and dad know how much Jesus loves them. I mean, come on! He’s helpful, he is a wonderful big brother, even when Sage is beating up on him. He loves to draw lately, and loves all things science. He is having a great time in Kindergarten, and is learning to read. He brings so much joy into my life, and I am so grateful that I was trusted to care for this precious child of God.

I love you Jaxon.

Today was Hazel’s blessing. She looked beautiful and her blessing was perfect. We were worried that she would be fussy and cry, but Jake said she smiled at him through most of it. This little girl is my angel. She has me completely wrapped around her teeny tiny finger. Just ask Jake! :) At 3 1/2 months she sleeps fairly well at night, much better than my last two. She’s content most of the time and smiles at me whenever I need a little pick me up. I was looking at one of me wedding pictures today thinking how different I was back then. I had no idea of the treasures and trials my 3 children would bring me through the next 8 years. Now that I know, I can’t thank my wedding day self enough for making the choice to get married and have these wonderful children. I am so blessed. And for your viewing pleasure……

Her dress is vintage! :) It was in a bag of stuff that belonged to my mom. It was actually a peach dress, but I bleached it white so she could use it as a blessing dress. I love it.

The whole clan included us, Joe and Wendy, Jarom, Tara and Ava . These next few were while we were hanging out in the mothers room ditchin’ Sunday School.

Children’s Garden

Jaxon had his first day of kindergarten last week. He did great! I was happy to know that he was a little nervous to jump right in. He needed me just enough. So far he’s had a few little sad moments with school, like the day I noticed a tear streak on his face, and after some prodding I learned that he got in trouble for being naughty. “She told me to leave my sillies at home” It broke my heart to think of him holding back the tears. But whenever we ask if he like Kindergarten he says, “of course I do!” I got to volunteer on Friday and it was good to see him in his element. That kid can’t wait to learn everything there is to know.

Jaxon is a great kid. He has been fishing lots with daddy lately and loves it. I just never thought he’d be old enough to go a full day with his daddy on the river. But now he’s almost 6 years old. He says funny things like “oh mangos” when he can’t have something he wants. He’s always wrestling with daddy, and loves nerf guns. I love this kid so much and I’m happy to see him growing up into such a great little man. I love you Jax!

Family Campout

Jake came home from work one sunny Friday evening and wanted to go camping. Well, I’m all for spontaneity so we (Jake) packed up the truck and took off to find a campsite. This wasn’t until after 6:00pm, and after driving over an hour to the campsite we were worried the campground would be full. But as luck would have it we got the very last site. The kids were in heaven throwing rocks in the river and eating marshmallows to their hearts content, and I enjoyed staying up late and watching a meteor shower. Even with all the work it takes to go camping with kids, and the fact that I never, ever get any sleep in a tent, it always seems to be worth it in the end.

I took these pictures the night before Heidi came into town for a visit. It was spotless, and I figured it might never be that clean again. So please come take a look at my home! :)

Here’s the entry way. My dad helped me spruce up the flower bed a bit, so it looks much nicer.

This is what you see when you first walk in. I absolutely love the fireplace, and can’t wait to actually use it!

Here’s the view of the kitchen from the front door. I really like the red walls. I don’t think I’d ever be bold enough to do it myself, so I’m glad they were already that way

We have our table in the kitchen and it fits pretty well. Here’s my “office” area. It actually supposed to be the dining room, but I like having my computer out in the open. On the left there is the kids art table. They get to make whatever art messes they want on that table. Then they don’t need me to get out art supplies when they are ready to create something. It’s been very well used.

Jaxon and Sage had their first official visit to the dentist yesterday. You’d think I was taking them to Disneyland with how excited they were.

It was fun hearing everyone call him doctor. I still can’t believe he’s actually a dentist. I just never thought the day would come!

During our fabulous 4th of July I had Jaxon get up and be part of the parade for our live list. I tried to get Sage up there too, but she was a bit more wary. I guess is wasn’t quite as exciting as I thought it might be. Maybe we’ll try this one again!

In other news, our Independence Day was spent in Idaho Falls with Jarom, Tara and baby Ava.

We covered all our bases.

Parade, check. Naps, check. Junk food, check. Fireworks, check.

Change is good…right?

So very many changes have been happening in life lately, here are the highlights.

First off, I’m adjusting to have an extra kid in the mix. She’s an angel though, and has made the change as effortless as it could possibly be. These two on the other hand have kept me just as busy as ever.

Jaxon graduated from preschool.

He absolutely loved preschool, and I feel so blessed to have been able to be a part of it as well.

I got to teach music with the kids once a week, and enjoyed seeing my sweet boy in his element. His teachers couldn't say enough about how smart he was. He must get it from his daddy.

Jake graduated!!!

What a wonderful and exciting change this is. The day we have been waiting for these past 4 years finally arrived! Jake graduated top 2 in his class with high honors, was given many awards of recognition, and looked as handsome as could be in those robes! :)

I’m so proud of him and all his hard work. Somehow he was able to do so well in school, and still spend every free moment with his family being an amazing father and husband. And I’m not even just saying that, it’s the truth! I’m not sure how I got so lucky to marry this amazing man, but you better bet I’m not letting him go.

We had a barbeque on Memorial Day with all of the buddies from Jakes school. This was the last time I’ll see most of them, and I can’t tell you how sad that makes me.

We’ve been through a lot together the past 4 years, and it’s crazy to think that in a matter of weeks it’ll all be over.

We are all moving on to the next phase of our life and it’s taking us all over the country.

I’ve been inspired and amazed by these men and women, and feel blessed to be their friends.

It wasn’t until I was halfway through this day that I realized we were living off our list. I guess it helped that I was super sick and super pregnant, and that Jaxon decided to throw up all day. But if nothing else, we got to sit around in our p.j’s and watch all sorts of fun movies. Granted we took little breaks here and there. Sage did some cleaning,

and I tried to take pictures of my pajamas.

That was an effort in and of itself. Did I mention I only have 3 weeks left? Ahhhh!

Oh, and when I finally did get the chance to leave the house, I had Sage get herself dressed and this is what she came up with. The only part I changed was the shoes.

Well, I’ve been reading Pioneer Woman’s blog for a long time now, and she’s taught me a lot. Most recently being how to make some amazing cinnamon toast. Who knew I’d been doing it wrong this whole time. Well, when I heard she was coming to my neck of the woods for a book signing, I was thrilled. I showed up hours early, with my cook book in hand, and waited for hours after just to have her sign it. Heidi came along for the fun, and fun it was! Her website is amazing, and I’ve yet to be let down with anything I’ve made from her cookbook. Here is a picture of my dad with 2 roasts I made for him, one of which was her recipe and it was good! It was his last meal before he headed off to Africa to be with Heather. He has since seen a white rhino, a pride of lions eating buffalo, and been charged by an elephant. WHAT? And here I think making him two roasts is special. Anyway, back to PW. Tomorrow I’m making her sour cream pancakes for Holly’s birthday snack. They are unreal. I’m not a huge pancake fan, but these are amazing. Are you sold yet? Yes, she’s taught me a lot, and now I have a picture of little ol’ me next to my idol. I mean, just look at how happy I am! :)

Let’s give ‘em something to blog about

Today has been a very blog worthy day. It all began in the morning with Jaxon’s 1st ever soccer practice and game. He was cute and excited and loved it! He came up to me before the game and said, “mom, you forgot to tell me something” to which I replied, “what did I forget Jaxon?”, “you forgot to say good luck!” He’s such a good kid, and I love him to pieces.

Jake even ended up with the assistant coach position for the day, which he loved.

It was fun to see my boys out there on the field together.

Next we headed out to Corvallis for Mya and Mckenzie’s birthday party. We were already late, so having out tire blow out was a double bummer. Luckily my husband is well educated in the changing tire business having spent our early years of marriage working at Les Schwab. So with his expertise and an friendly ODOT incident control guy we were on the road again in no time. Funny how those things that could go so wrong (just imagine my huge pregnant self alone with 2 kids when it happened) end up working out so well. I got bored during the ordeal, so I took pictures. Notice Jaxon checking out the action.

The rest of the trip went smoothly, and we made it just in time for the party to have ended. Which would have been okay, except for I had the cake! Grandma and Grandpa saved the day with a quick trip to the grocery store. And that left a whole cake for our little group to enjoy! Once again, things just worked out okay.

It was a mermaid party. Cute cake huh? I had lots of fun making it.

The ride home was wonderfully uneventful day, and thus ends our exciting, blog worthy day. Now I’m going to try and find a comfortable position in bed and go to sleep.

Oh, and here’s me and Jess showing off our bellies. It’s impossible not to laugh when taking a picture like this, hence my scary squinty eyes. Yes, I’m huge!

And on a last sweet little note, as we were saying our family prayer tonight Jaxon interrupted with a “don’t forget….” which happens often, and usually it’s something to do with sea creatures or what not, but tonight he wanted to make sure we said we were thankful for the man who helped us with the flat tire. He just get’s it. And he is an example to me that I need to express my gratitude to my Heavenly Father more for days like today. Days that His tender mercies are abundant. Good thing for my 5 year old to teach me these life lessons.

I really love playing games with my family. And not just any games, but those really long boring games that take forever to play. It all started with Settlers of Catan, then moved on to Cities and Knights, and has continued with all sorts of the same…..Ticket to Ride, Power Grid, etc. Well, I lose these games on a regular basis. Actually, I ALWAYS lose. And as much as I like to play, it does start to get a bit tiring spending 3 hours in a game that I know I’ll lose. Well folks, all that has changed thanks to AGRICOLA!!! I’ve played 3 times and won 3 times. :) I recommend it to any of you losers out there.

For me, this is one of the greatest holiday’s of the year. My brother and I would always make the most amazing trap to catch a leprechaun, and each and every year we caught one. So of course the tradition must be passed along. This is how it works. You dig a hole big enough for a leprechaun to fall in, then you cover the trap with twigs and grass to camouflage it. Next you wait, that’s always the hardest part. And if you’re lucky enough to catch one, he’ll usually have to leave his bag of gold in order to get out of the trap. Trust me, it works like a charm!

It was a beautiful sunny day in Oregon in February (which doesn’t happen where I grew up) so the family and I decided to work a bit on our live list.

We had so much fun exploring our new park we found and it made for a most pleasant Saturday afternoon. I’ll for sure be doing this one again!

Catch a salamander & catch a crawdad

The kids got to go with Grandma and Grandpa to Horning’s Hideout this weekend to start checking off our live list. I love that Jaxon isn’t afraid to just scoop these creatures up in his hand. He’s all boy, that kid!

This is the season of parties in my family, that’s for sure. 1st there’s Heathers, then mine, then Sage…all within 3 weeks, then a few weeks later is Jakes. Crazy! So we’ve been having a great time partying. Here are some highlights.

My birthday, part III

I never got to finish off how the day ended, and it’s oh so important, so I’ll squeeze it in After the delicious lunch and cupcakes, I took a short, but much needed, nap. Good thing for Little Einstein's which kept the kids entertained. Then the Bruno’s had me over for Fondue, presents and cake and ice cream! I’m so spoiled. Heidi made my cake. Isn’t it lovely. The kiddos sure thought so. And what party would be complete without a game of charades?

I came home full, exhausted, and content with another successful birthday. Can’t wait for next year!

Onto yesterday. Sage’s 3rd birthday. Really I’ve felt like she’s been 3 for the past 6 months, so it’s nice to have it official. Sage loves anything pink, so I decided on a pink princess theme. After reading a cute idea online about having a real princess come to the party, I just had to make it happen. Luckily I’ve got some royal connections and was able to get Princess Glimmer to come.

It was magical, to say the very least. She read a princess story to the kids, and gave them each a certificate that said they were real princesses. I also had a little jewelry box with a ring in it for her to give to each girl. Kari did an amazing job as the princess, and Sage is still talking about it. You’re so stinkin’ great Kari! THANK YOU!!!! We also were able to borrow a princess jump house, and the weather cooperated enough to use it outside. It was a perfect little party…… even with this little monster as the star of the show. :)

After that party wrapped up we headed out the door to the Zoo with Maegan and the kids. It was such a sunny day, we just had to get out. Jaxon and Sage loved feeding the birds.

Next it was off to Chuck E. Cheese for a bit. Heidi got all the kids tokens to play for a little while. It was nice to finally just sit for a minute while the kids were in Heaven.

Whew, okay what’s next. After that we went home to find grandma and grandpa at our house. Sage LOVES her grandma, so that was a special treat. They were showered with attention and I had a minute to get ready for my Opera date with my dad later that night. Instead of making dinner for the whole family clan, we went to McDonalds and had happy meals. If only they had been giving out princess toys, it would have been perfect, but what can you do! We came home to presents and cake before I had to go.

It was an overwhelmingly fun day, and I’m so happy to have made it the best for my sweet little girl. Granted, she tests my patience a lot, but there is so much goodness that radiates from her. She’s funny and so sweet with her brother and is my kindred spirit. We both have to be in pajamas all day long. :) '

You’ve never lived until you’ve….

I feel like my life is tumbling forward at a frenzied pace, and there’s no way to slow it down. My kids are getting big, and another one will be joining our little family very soon. Sometime I worry that I don’t do enough for my kids, that I don’t show them how much fun life can be. I’m all they’ve got to show them the best childhood possible. So this is a little list to help us remember those things that make being a kid so great. I can’t wait to start checking it off.

sent up a tent inside and sleep in it

It’s my birthday part II

I’ve got a lot of cupcake in me right now and I like it!

I had music group this morning, and I loved making them sing for me! Of course they were happy to oblige. Cute kiddos.

After music group I ditched my kids and went downtown for lunch with my dad and Heidi. We went to a Peruvian restaurant called Andina. The food is incredible! If you live in Portland and you’ve never been, you need to try it.

I was too anxious to eat that I didn’t get a before picture of the food, but notice how empty the plates are. Yum!

After lunch (thanks dad!) Heidi and I noticed we were far to close to Saint Cupcake to just ignore, plus, it is my birthday, so we went and got some cupcakes. I love Heidi in the reflection.

But now I had a dilemma, I had two little cupcakes from Saint Cupcake, and 5 delicious homemade cupcakes from my Maegan at home. What’s a girl to do but just eat 3 cupcakes? So that’s what I did. It just felt right. Each and every were delish, but I think Maegan’s had to have been the best. That cream filling is unreal. Oh, and she brought me this super cute apron! Jaxon’s photo skills are a work in progress. Thanks Maeg and Jera!!

And one last thought (for now) on my birthday.

Having a birthday in January means your birthday is in the middle of winter right? Well, not in good ol’ Oregon. Today is sunny and beautiful and look at what I found outside. I feel like it’s springtime!

And so far so good! I got to sleep in until 8:00, which isn’t bad really. I had fruit loops and cartoons ready and waiting for when the kids woke up. And thanks to my dad making a trip all the way to Super Wal-Mart, I’ll be having myself some Rice Krispies Treat cereal for breakfast.

Anyone else remember this stuff? It’s as good as ever. And of course I woke up to a bunch of facebook birthday wishes. Birthday’s are good. They make me giddy. Okay, this is update 1 of many to come.

Oh my goodness!!! I nearly forgot the best part so far. At 11:59pm last night Jake woke me up with a phone call from Heather. And as I put the phone up to my ear my clock changed to midnight(seriously), and not only did I get a birthday wish from my sister, but a whole classroom full of sweet Zambian children sang me happy birthday as loudly as the could! It made me so happy. I’m getting birthday wishes from across the globe. How lucky am I?

Acantholysis

These are the kind of words my poor husband has to look up on the computer nowadays. He’s taking part 2 of the boards tomorrow, and I have to admit, it will be nice to have him back when it’s all over. He is very focused when he studies.

Since we have 1:00 church these days, I’m always trying to find things to do in the morning. Today, I succeeded in French braiding Sagie’s hair. I’ve been wanted to learn how to do it forever, and she was patient enough for me to practice on her.

Jaxon needed his picture taken as well. He’s so gorgeous, I couldn’t resist.

Here’s a little art project that got out of hand. I must admit, I’m the one who started it. I just grabbed my paint brush and got Jaxon’s belly. He thought it was just about the coolest thing ever! Hence the picture you see.

And this is just cute. I can’t wait to add another one of these to my fam.

Oh, and my birthday is in 3 days. Wednesday, January 27th I will be 28 years old. If you want to bring me a present that’s okay. :)

A few funny things I want to remember.

I do music every Monday in Jaxon’s preschool and I was telling them how I wanted a guitar for Christmas and then I would learn to play it for them. A little boy calls out “You can’t learn anymore! You’re a teacher!” I thought it was so funny, and told him that you never stop learning! So just for him I’ve been trying my hardest to learn how to play.

Sage managed to get into the freezer this morning while Jake was in the shower and I was still in bed, and grabbed herself a push pop for breakfast. She told Jake, “I’m not little anymore!” Oh dear. And then my sweet husband decides it’s a good idea to give Jaxon an ice cream sandwich instead of cereal before preschool. Oh well, I guess it’s only fair.

We took away Sage’s binky about a month ago, and she’s been doing really well with it gone. Although she’s taken up a new way to soothe herself. I’m not sure which habit is worse!

I went to the mall early yesterday and was overwhelmed by the number of mall walkers I saw there. It was fantastic! I vowed to myself to one day be numbered among them.

My little baby kicks me all the time. 4 months to go. Crazy!!

So many funny things happen in my day to day life, and it’s so hard to remember them all. Sometimes I think I should twitter just so I can get them down. Maybe I’ll just keep a blog of them all week and post them on Sunday. Yes, I like that idea. My kids are always making me laugh. :)

Oh, and my birthday is in 13 days. Just in case you were wondering.

Christmas is Snohomish

We made a quick detour to the Puget Sound Aquarium before making our way up to grandma and grandpa's house. Jaxon is fascinated by sharks, sting rays, scorpions and the like, and we weren’t disappointed in the least at all the fun creatures we saw….like this friendly snail for instance!

Once we made it to Snohomish our first order of business was to meet and fall in love with our new baby niece/cousin Ava. She’s so sweet. Then we had a ginger bread house making contest….it’s too bad we were up against the self proclaimed reigning world champ of Ginger bread house decorating(Jarom)…or we might of had a chance!

Next it was time to jump into Grandma’s awesome bath!! My kids could spend hours playing in this thing!

On Christmas Eve we made sure to make sugar cookies for Santa, got some new pajamas, and of course a quick Nativity. Jaxon was adamant that he be a Shepherd man. He’s a sweet kid, and loved the fact that it was really baby Jesus’ birthday that we were celebrating.

sweet little Christmas Ava Unfortunately, Sage fell asleep early on Christmas Eve so she missed out of the festivities. But she got her pajamas in the morning, and seemed as happy as could be about it. So it all worked out in the end.

Jake and I sat up after everyone had gone to bed next to the tree and just reveled in the magic of Christmas. It was wonderful. I then got to chat with Heather for almost an hour and hear all about her wonderful Christmas. It couldn’t have been a better Christmas Eve.

I actually had to be woken up on Christmas morning, which almost never happens, and the morning was full of your classic Christmas fun. Santa came and brought way too many toys! :)

I LOVE stockings. They are my favorite part of Christmas morning.

Lego Castle. Jaxon and I spent almost 3 hours putting it together. It’s very cool.

This is what I got on Christmas from Jake, with a little help from Santa! I LOVE it, and even get to take private lessons I’ll be a pro in no time! I got the sweater too. My in-laws know me well enough to get me gift cards. Those are the best presents! So I went out the next day and spoiled myself!

It was a wonderful Christmas, and we made lots of fun memories!

Yesterday was an awesome snow storm! We obviously were caught off guard as you can see by Sagie’s choice of outfit for the day. Don’t worry we had a coat on her, just had to take it off real quick for the picture! :)

What a wonderful Christmas vacation! And to top it off, today we found out we’re having another perfect baby girl! I can’t wait.

She did a big yawn during the ultrasound. It was very, very cute.

Cousin fun

On Friday the 18th we stuck with tradition and had our annual cousin Christmas party, complete with pizza and a movie. I had to include pictures of past years so you can see how our crowd has grown. This year we were lucky enough to get Mya and McKenzie as well! Next year it’ll have to be in Boise!
