Run for Darfur

Heidi asked me last week if I wanted to run a 5k for a country in need in Africa. Well, I love all things Africa and said yes! Regardless of the fact that I've only run 3 time in the past month, and Heidi runs 8 minute miles almost every morning. The morning of the race came and it was cold and raining, but off we went. The race was small and fun, and I did my best to keep up with Heidi for the first minute or so, but then my legs just wouldn't keep up. Try as I may, I could not get my body to move fast enough to stay up with her. So I thought to myself "good riddance!" and slowed way down and enjoyed myself a nice little 3 mile run. I don't know my time, so don't ask, but it was slow. I was just thrilled to have run in it. So after the race we were waiting around for the announcement of the winners, because Heidi has a hunch that she may have placed in the top 3 in her age group. Well, sure enough they start to read the winners and she's not called 3rd, and then she's not called 2nd, and then I heard it, "and in 1st place, Heidi B.!!!!! AHHHH! To say I was thrilled is an understatement. As she walked up to receive her fancy dollar store blue ribbon I yelled, "THAT'S MY SISTER!!!!" She was thoroughly embarrassed, and I was feeling on top of the world, like I was the one that had just one 1st place and not 101st. It was a fun morning to be sure! 118

Way to go steph....I love to boast in other peoples grand accomplishments since I am usually the one tripping over my shoelaces!

I like that you say it was a nice LITTLE 3 mile run. I tried to run to the end of the block the other day and only made it halfway. I guess my goal of running the Salt Lake City Marathon in April is out of the question huh?

Just a few clarifications: I got first place in my division, not overall, and there weren't a ton of runners. Don't want to give anyone the wrong idea. I did, however, get a bit embarrassed when Steph gave me such a big cheer but loved that she was so excited for me. What an awesome sister.

Sounds like you are my kind of runner, Steph! I would have kept you company!

BTW, you are still watching Maia on Monday, right? 10:30 to 3:45? I know it's a long long time and I'll owe you. :0)
